What is Unicheck?
Unicheck is a plagiarism checker that verifies the originality of submitted texts or documents and delivers detailed similarity reports to teachers, instructors, and students.
Unicheck can be integrated into Google Classroom to provide instructors and students with similarity reports for assignments submitted within the Classroom environment. Unicheck will automatically check for new submissions in selected courses, generate similarity reports, and send similarity report links to instructors via email.
Unicheck Report
Please refer to our Unicheck Report Guide for details on design and functionality of the Unicheck Report.
Please note that similarity reports sent via email are available in view mode only (i.e., you will be unable to modify exclusion filters, manually exclude sources or add comments). Please refer to Request an Individual Unicheck Account to Edit Reports and contact your institution’s Unicheck administrator if you want to edit similarity reports.
How Does Unicheck Work with Classroom?
Unicheck monitors new submissions in selected classes, generates similarity reports, and delivers them to selected recipients via email. Once Unicheck is integrated into Classroom using a Unicheck Admin account, instructors will automatically receive similarity reports to their email addresses. Similarity reports will be generated only for submissions within the classes selected by the Unicheck administrator.
Unicheck works in the background and does not affect any of the Classroom features and workflows (submission/resubmission process, grading, etc.).
Depending on your institution’s policy, Unicheck settings may be managed either by administrator or by instructors themselves. In case of the latter scenario, your institution’s administrator will ask you to create a Unicheck integration (please refer to Integration Procedure).
How and When Are Unicheck Reports Delivered to Instructors?
Links to similarity reports (for submissions within selected classes) are automatically sent to instructors via email. Please contact your institution's Unicheck administrator and request to enable Unicheck for your classes.
A comment with a Unicheck Report link can be displayed when you open a submission in Classroom. The link is view-only, i.e. you will not be able to edit the report. Comments with report links will not be visible to students.
Note: If you do not see report links in Classroom submissions, please contact the administrator to enable this feature or make sure this feature is enabled in the integration.
To access the report URL in instructor account, please do the following:
- In Classroom preview mode:
1. Open a submitted document in Classroom.
2. Click More actions icon.
3. Click Show comments column.
- In Classroom editing mode:
1. Open a submitted document in Classroom.
2. Click Show the menus icon.
3. Click Open comment history icon.
All the settings listed below can be configured either for all instructors at your institution or individually for any instructor depending on the integration scenario.
Unicheck administrator can assign one or all of the following email recipients of similarity reports:
- All teachers in the course.
- Course owner / coursework owner.
- Unicheck administrator.
Unicheck administrator can select one of the two email delivery options:
Option 1 — Send reports one by one as students submit papers.
A separate email will be sent after each submission. For example, when ten students submit their papers, recipients will receive a separate email after each submission has been made (ten emails in total).
Resubmissions
The submission/resubmission process is managed by Classroom and not affected by Unicheck. If Option 1 is selected, you might not receive similarity reports for all files resubmitted within a 3-6 hour period. However, you will always receive a similarity report for the latest resubmission attempt.
Option 2 — Send all reports when assignment is due.
One email containing reports for all submissions will be sent when assignment is due (regardless of how many students have made submissions within the assignment). Unicheck will also check late submissions and send a separate email for each late submission.
Please note that if this option is selected, no similarity reports will be generated for assignments without a due date. Similarity reports will be generated upon the assignment due date in case you set the due date after receiving submissions from students.
Resubmissions
The submission/resubmission process is managed by Classroom and not affected by Unicheck. If Option 2 is selected, you will receive a similarity report for the latest resubmission attempt made before the due date. Reports will not be generated for resubmission attempts made after the due date.
Note: If an email from Unicheck contains a “File not found” error message, it means that the Google account which was used to create the integration does not have permission to access the submission file, and therefore, Unicheck was unable to generate a similarity report for the submission.
If you receive a “File not found” error message, please contact your institution’s Unicheck administrator. Please refer to the Unicheck Admin Guide for Google Classroom for information on how to solve this issue if you have access to the Unicheck Admin account.
Unicheck Report Options
Report options can be modified by administrator only. To modify exclusion filters, exclude sources manually or add comments you need an individual Unicheck account. Please refer to Request an Individual Unicheck Account to Edit Reports for more details.
Please refer to Unicheck Report Guide to learn about available report options.
Download Unicheck Report and Original Submission
When viewing an online similarity report, go to the Options Menu and click Download.
Choose one of the following options:
Download Original File: Download the originally submitted document.
Download PDF Report: Download the Unicheck Report as a PDF file.
Share Unicheck Report
The best way to share a similarity report with another person is to download and send the PDF version of the report.
Due to privacy considerations, it is not recommended to share report links which you receive to your email address. Please consider that any person with the link will have access to sensitive information, such as student’s name and email.
Request an Individual Unicheck Account to Edit Reports
An instructor does not have an option to edit a similarity report (e.g., modify exclusion filters, exclude sources manually or add comments) using the report link received via email. However, this option is available if instructor has direct access to the similarity report via a Unicheck Instructor account at corp.unicheck.com.
Please contact the administrator or refer to the Unicheck Admin Guide for Google Classroom for information on how to add a Unicheck Instructor account if you have access to the Unicheck Admin account.
After the administrator has created your Unicheck Instructor account, you will receive an email notification with instructions on how to activate and access the account. To find the similarity reports you want to edit, log in at corp.unicheck.com and click the Library tab. Please contact your administrator and request access to particular folders (classes). You will see the folders that were shared with you (each folder represents a class created in Google Classroom and contains similarity reports for submissions made within the class).
Can Students Run a Plagiarism Check on Their Own?
You can provide any student at your institution with individual access to Unicheck. Just ask the Unicheck administrator to send invitations, and each invited student will get 50 free pages to check their papers. When free pages run out, students can purchase additional pages for a small fee. Purchasing new pages is completely optional.
Unicheck administrator will need a list of students’ email addresses to either enter them manually or import as an XML or CSV file.
How to Enable Unicheck for Newly Added Classes?
Unicheck does not automatically check submissions within new classes when they are added in Classroom. If you want a new class to be monitored by Unicheck, please ask your institution’s Unicheck administrator to enable the Classroom course at corp.unicheck.com. Please refer to the Unicheck Admin Guide for Classroom for information on how to enable a newly created Classroom course if you have access to the Unicheck Admin account.
