Which modules in Canvas does Unicheck LTI integrate with?
Unicheck integrates into Assignment activity in Canvas LMS by means of External tool submission (Submission Type).
How to enable Unicheck in the Canvas assignment?
To enable Unicheck in the Canvas assignment, change Submission Type to External tool, search for "Unicheck" and select the tool. If you don’t see Unicheck listed as an external tool, please contact the LMS administrator. In this case, the administrator should verify if the Unicheck app has been installed properly.
Once you select Unicheck, the field will be populated with the Unicheck app URL as on the screenshot below:
This is the only step required to start using Unicheck in the assignment. Adjust other assignment settings as necessary and save & publish the assignment.
Configuring settings for the Unicheck assignment
Open an Unicheck assignment (Course → Assignments → Unicheck assignment), and click Settings.
Description of Unicheck assignment settings
Use this option to create ‘Draft’ assignments. Submissions in ‘Final’ assignment won’t be matched against ‘Draft’ assignments.
When you turn on Auto Exclude Citations & References, Unicheck will search for citations (APA, MLA, Turabian, Harvard, Chicago) and references in the text and will highlight them. Citations are marked with blue color, references are marked with violet color. Marked citations and references might increase originality level.
Note: Automatic exclusion of self-plagiarism Unicheck automatically skips student drafts for a given assignment when Unicheck resubmit feature is used). All other matches will be reported. |
Student Precheck
This option allows students to make several similarity checks themselves before making a final submission. Please refer to the section below for more details.
For large texts like thesis or dissertations or similar documents, recommended % value is 0. Otherwise, you might unintentionally omit relevant sources. For words filter, minimum value is 8 (i.e. sources with less than 8 words will be omitted). Set a higher value to omit larger sources.
When enabled, students will 1) see a similarity score 2) have view access to Unicheck report.
Let students run a plagiarism check on their own (student precheck)
When Student pre-check is On, a student will see a Drafts folder, where a user can upload draft versions of the assignment and run a similarity check. Student will see a standard Unicheck report for every similarity check. Pre-checks (both student files and similarity reports) are not visible to the teacher.
How do I know when Unicheck reports are available?
Open an Unicheck assignment to see the list of student submissions. You will see records for students that simply opened the assignment (Open status) and for those who have turned in the files (Submitted or Report ready statuses). Unicheck report is available when status is - Report ready. Click on a student (row in the table) to view submission details. If necessary, sort table by a column - to do this, click on a column’s name once or twice.
All initial submissions will be recorded as attempt #1. Instructor may allow individual (recycle icon) or group resubmissions. For bulk resubmissions - select multiple or all students and click Bulk resubmit .
Students who opened assignment, but not submitted the file(s) will have status Opened.
How do I add grades to submissions?
You may grade assignments using standard Canvas features (Speed Grader or Grades section).
Additionally, Unicheck offers two options to grade an assignment:
- From the list of student submissions
- From the Unicheck Report
How do I allow students to resubmit?
All initial submissions will be recorded as attempt #1. Instructor may allow individual (recycle icon) or group resubmissions. For bulk resubmissions - select multiple or all students and click Bulk resubmit .
When you initiate a resubmission, STATUS changes to Resubmit, and a student(s) can upload files again.
Previous attempts are not deleted, you can access both Unicheck report and original submission for any past attempt.
Note: Latest attempt will not be compared against previous ones. This allows for draft or revision workflow.
How do I submit on behalf of a student?
Click Student view (i.e. View) button next to a student name to access the assignment on behalf of specific student. This view mode allows you to see and do what a student can do in his/her assignment.
A purple frame indicates that you have ‘become’ that student and can submit on behalf of that person:
Click Add files to upload a file(s) and then click Final submission to submit the documents. Once you see the status File(s) successfully submitted! you can click Back to return to a normal view (assignment submissions table).
How do I download original submissions and Unicheck Reports?
- Click the Download icon to download specific file or click Original files button to download all original submissions at once. Files will be placed in a zip archive. Archive will include only latest attempt for every student.
- To download Unicheck Reports in bulk, select one or more students and click Generate reports:
