What is Unicheck?
Unicheck is a plagiarism checker. It verifies the originality of submitted texts or documents and delivers detailed similarity reports to instructors and students.
Unicheck plugin can be integrated into Moodle LMS and used by instructors in the following activities: Moodle Assignment, Moodle Forum, and Moodle Workshop. After a student makes a submission, instructor receives a comprehensive similarity report, which becomes available within a few minutes.
Unicheck compares submitted documents or texts with the Internet and/or Unicheck Institutional Library (i.e., past assignments submitted to Unicheck).
Unicheck Report
Unicheck Report highlights all text segments that match Internet and/or Library sources and provides a list of matched sources. You can click on the highlighted segments to see the corresponding matched sources (alternatively, when you click on sources from the list, the corresponding text segments are highlighted).
Please refer to Interpreting Similarity Results in our Unicheck Report Guide for details on how to interpret the Unicheck Report.
Does Unicheck Grade My Assignment?
No. Only your instructor can grade your assignment. Unicheck helps to assess your submission by providing a similarity report and calculating a similarity score.
Does Unicheck Affect the Submission Process?
No. Please follow the standard Moodle procedures to submit text and/or files in Assignment, Forum, and Workshop activities.
How and When Can I View the Similarity Report?
You can view the similarity score and/or similarity report only if your instructor has made them visible to students. Unicheck Report is automatically generated after submission. It may take up to 10 minutes depending on the size of your submission.
Unicheck Report uses different colors to display the similarity score indicator (each color is attributed to one particular similarity score range):
- Blue: 0%
- Green: 1-24%
- Yellow: 25-49%
- Orange: 50-74%
- Red: 75-100%
Moodle Assignment
To access the online Unicheck Report, navigate to your assignment in Moodle and click Report.
Moodle Forum
When students post replies within a Forum activity, Unicheck Reports are automatically generated for the posted text and files. Click Report to view the online Unicheck Report.
Moodle Workshop
For texts and files submitted within a Workshop activity, Unicheck Reports are automatically generated once instructor has switched the activity to Assessment Phase (students can no longer edit their submissions). Click Report to view the online Unicheck Report.
Are Citations Included in Similarity Score?
If your instructor decides to exclude quotes and/or references, Unicheck will highlight properly formatted in-text citations and/or references in blue and purple respectively (APA, MLA, Chicago/Turabian, Harvard) and exclude them from the Similarity Score.
Note: Instructor can manually exclude or include individual in-text citations or similarities (matched sources), which may reduce or increase the similarity score.
What if My Current Submission Contains Parts from Previous Submissions?
Unicheck automatically excludes self-plagiarism from the Similarity Score (if this setting is enabled by your institution). Even if the setting is not enabled, there’s no reason to worry — your instructor will be notified which parts of your submissions coincide and will not consider them as plagiarized.
Note: Exclusion of self-plagiarism is only applicable to submissions within the same course.
Can I See My Instructor’s Feedback?
Instructor may decide to leave comments on your similarity report (in this case the number of comments will appear on the Comments button). When viewing a similarity report, click the Comments button above the Side Panel to see highlighted area(s) of the document and corresponding instructor’s comments on the Side Panel.
Note: The Unicheck Comments tool is a separate tool that allows to leave comments specifically within the similarity report. Instructor’s comments will be also added to the PDF Unicheck Report when you download it. Your instructor can still use the native Moodle annotation tool to leave feedback.
How to Download a Similarity Report?
When viewing an online similarity report, go to the Options Menu and click Download.
Choose one of the following options:
Download Original File: Download the originally submitted document.
Download PDF Report: Download the Unicheck Report as a PDF file.
